KUCHING, Jan 26: The main structure connection work for the Batang Lupar 1 Bridge in Sri Aman was successfully completed today, marking a significant milestone toward its scheduled opening to the public in May 2026.

In a statement, the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR) announced that the structural connection ceremony was officiated today by the Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development (Infrastructure Development), Datuk Ir. Aidel Lariwoo.

“The construction of this bridge reflects the Sarawak Government’s continuous commitment to strengthening the state’s strategic connectivity network,” JKR Sarawak explained in a statement. Also present was the Director of JKR Sarawak, Datu Dr. Cassidy Morris.

The Batang Lupar 1 Bridge is designed as a two-lane, single-carriageway bridge spanning the Batang Lupar river. It features 87 river piers and is built according to JKR R5 Standards.

With a total length of 4,884 meters, the project stands as one of the most significant bridge structures ever developed in Sarawak.

JKR Sarawak stated that the construction aims to replace the Batang Lupar ferry service, thereby providing a safer, more efficient, and uninterrupted route between coastal villages from Sebuyau to Triso.

“This project is expected to open up wider access to new areas for commercial, agricultural, and tourism activities, subsequently stimulating sustainable socioeconomic growth along the Sebuyau–Triso corridor and strengthening the development of Sarawak’s coastal region,” it said.
