SEBUYAU, Jan 5: The Batang Lupar 1 Bridge has recorded 93.09 percent construction progress and is expected to be opened to the public in May 2026.
Sarawak Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, said the project is currently on schedule and he is confident that construction can be fully completed according to the set timeline.
“I would like to inform that the construction of this bridge is on schedule, with a completion rate of 93.09 percent. We are confident that the contractors will continue to adhere to the set schedule.
“This bridge is expected to be opened to the public by the end of May, before being officially inaugurated in June,” he told reporters after visiting the construction site in Sebuyau today.
He, who is also the Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development, said the 4.8-kilometer-long bridge connecting Sebuyau and Maludam is among the strategic projects of the Sarawak Government to enhance the connectivity network, especially in the area.

According to him, once the bridge network is fully completed, land travel from Kuching to Limbang will no longer require ferry services. “This situation will completely transform the transportation system in the coastal areas of Sarawak, while also connecting economic activities, villages, schools, and clinics throughout the areas involved,” he said.
In addition to saving travel time, the project plays an important role in completing the coastal road connections and main roads linking Sebuyau, Asajaya, and Gedong with Triso and Maludam. -TVS
