GEDONG, Jan 5: The Sarawak government has established a special committee to comprehensively monitor the implementation of the road project in the Gedong area. Sarawak Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the establishment of the special committee was to ensure that the strategic infrastructure project was completed according to the schedule and specifications set. “We decided to establish a special task force or special committee to be led by the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development of Sarawak, Datuk Aidel Lariwoo.
"The team has been instructed to hold daily and monthly meetings to monitor the implementation of the project. They will report to me on the progress every two months because this project is very important and must be completed as planned," he told reporters after visiting the construction site in Gedong, today. Uggah explained that the move is important since the project involves three main road alignments with a total cost of about RM2.8 billion, thus requiring close and continuous monitoring to avoid delays. Apart from the Serian-Gedong-Samarahan road project which includes five construction packages, the project also involves a proposal to upgrade Jalan Gedong-Semunjan (two packages) and a proposal to build Jalan Gedong-Semalatong (three packages). According to him, several issues were identified during the implementation of the project, especially involving land-related matters. However, he hoped that the issues could be resolved in the near future to enable construction work to continue smoothly without any disruption. "The contractor has already entered the project site and in several areas, construction work has begun," he said.-TVS
