THE Sarawak government has identified a total of 5,977.038 km of logging roads statewide for takeover under the State Road Maintenance Programme.
Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development Datuk Aidel Lariwoo said the Sarawak Public Works Department (PWD) and the Forest Department had mapped out active logging roads that connected settlements in rural areas across the state.
He said the proposal to take over active logging roads linking rural communities had been approved by the state government.
“At the moment, the Sarawak government is in the process of gazetting abandoned, active and inactive logging roads.
“Once these roads are gazetted as State Roads (JRN), the state government will take over their maintenance under the State Road Maintenance Programme,” he said when responding to Nicholas Kudi Jantai (GPS–Baleh) in the DUN today.
Earlier, Nicholas had also asked about the total road length in Kapit and its breakdown by category under the State Road Maintenance Programme.
Aidel said Kapit accounted for 3,781.694 km of registered roads under the programme.
These comprised 2,353.28 km of State Roads (JRN), 1,417.82 km of Village Roads (JKPG), and 10.594 km of Agricultural Roads (JPTN).
