MARUDI, Nov 15: The Sarawak government is applying modern technology in the implementation of the Miri-Marudi-Mulu (Kuala Melinau)-Long Panai-Long Lama (MMMLL) Road Project.

According to Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, among the technologies used are Highway Information Modeling (HIM), Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR), Geographical Information System (GIS), and 3D Aerial Photo mapping using Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV).
"LiDAR is an innovative technology that uses laser beams to produce high-precision 3D maps, supporting more accurate and environmentally friendly design, construction and maintenance. GIS, on the other hand, allows route alignment and earthwork calculations to be done in more detail to minimize disturbance to slopes, rivers and natural habitats.

"Meanwhile, 3D aerial photo mapping using UAVs allows periodic monitoring to be carried out without physical impact on sensitive areas. The use of this integrated technology allows topographic data to be obtained quickly and accurately, reducing the risk of design conflicts, as well as minimizing rework and resource use," he said.

He said this while speaking at the Inauguration Ceremony of the MMMLL Road Project here, today.

He added that it will also improve the efficiency of planning in sensitive areas, reduce field survey time and further reduce security risks and impact on the environment.

He said, with this high-tech planning and construction approach, the MMMLL Road project not only provides a high-quality road network, but also ensures sustainable development and preserves the ecological and environmental integrity of Sarawak's hinterland. – TVS
