BETONG, Nov 10: One of the lanes in Simpang Maja, Betong is temporarily closed to make way for road upgrading works in the area. Deputy Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said, the move may cause some inconvenience to road users, but it was implemented for reasonable reasons in the interest and safety of all parties. According to him, the Public Works Department (JKR) has certain technical reasons in the implementation of the work and the public is asked to be patient while the work is completed.
"I will discuss with JKR especially regarding the road signs and lighting in the construction area. We have instructed that this aspect be upgraded because I myself find that the existing signs are still insufficient and need to be improved," he said. He said this when commenting on the closure of the lane on the Pan Borneo Highway after attending the Symbolic Ceremony of the Handover of Fishing Equipment Aid to 14 fishermen in Spaoh on Monday. At the same time, Uggah who is also Sarawak's Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development (MIPD) assured that improvements will be made immediately to ensure the safety of road users. He also admitted that there is still a lack of signs and warning lights in the construction area, especially at night, but follow-up action will be taken by the relevant authorities.-TVS
