KUCHING: The government will ensure the construction of the Mile 6 and 7 flyovers along the Kuching-Serian portion of the Pan Borneo Highway Project is completed within the stipulated time.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas guaranteed that the Ministry of Infrastructure and Port Development together with the Public Works Department (PWD) will go to the ground to check on issues arising.

Uggah disclosed that the Mile 6 flyover will be completed by the end of July while the Mile 7 flyover will be completed on July 25.

“I will monitor it daily to make sure that both constructions are on schedule,” he told the media after visiting the Mile 6 flyover here today (July 18).

He also stressed that both the Ministry and PWD will make an assessment on the capacity of contractors to deliver the project on time.

“The intention is to make sure the project is completed on time as there is high expectation from people as well from the government.

“That’s why we will always make sure the contractor complies with our target of manpower requirement, the machinery requirement as well as material which will indicate the time frame for the completion of a certain project,” he added.

On manpower, Uggah assured that PWD will hire enough people for the project for it to be completed on time, as well as the materials needed.

“This is the reason why we go to the ground. We have a number of delayed projects and some are considered ‘delayed sick projects’.

“The Ministry’s priority is to make sure delayed projects are completed on time,” he said.

According to Uggah, sick projects will have the government’s commitment to ensure project completion meets the people’s expectation.

“This is very important because the facilities and infrastructure provided will help us in our economic growth in line with the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS2030),” he said.
