KUCHING, Oct 24: The Borneo Convention Center Kuching (BCCK) 2 construction project is expected to be fully completed in the last quarter of 2027, thus becoming a catalyst for the growth of the tourism, business and local economy sectors. Sarawak's Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, said he was satisfied with the physical progress during the RM550 million project and was optimistic that BCCK 2 would become the state's newest landmark by 2028. "The appointed contractors have been actively carrying out the works for the past six months and I am impressed with the progress that has been highlighted. I understand that their assignments are now ahead of schedule by 1.43 percent," he said. He said this to reporters after conducting a working visit to the BCCK 2 development project site here today. According to Uggah, the appointed contractor also managed to overcome some issues that could potentially hinder the progress of the project, especially in critical areas such as the main hall of the convention center. "At first I was a bit worried about the piling installation work in the critical area, but the good weather helped speed up the process. I understand that 98 percent of the work in the area has now been completed," he said. The BCCK 2 construction project started on April 30. When fully completed in December 2027, the convention center will accommodate more than 9,000 visitors at any one time.
