LIMBANG, June 14: The Limbang Bridge is expected to be fully completed and ready for use by April 2026, thus shortening the travel time from Limbang to Brunei Darussalam. Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the strategic project shows encouraging progress with the cable-stayed main structure expected to be completed as early as the end of this year. "I was informed that the bridge structure is likely to be completed by December. If everything goes well, it can be used around April 2026," he said after visiting the bridge construction site today. According to him, the bridge will not only strengthen the relationship between Limbang and Brunei Darussalam but also strengthen the trade and tourism network between the two regions. "We now have good trade relations with Brunei, including the presence of the Sarawak Trade and Tourism Office in Brunei (STATOB) in that country. When this bridge is completed, it will further increase cooperation between the two governments," he said. Abang Johari said that Bandar Seri Begawan has the potential to be the main gateway for tourists to Sarawak who can then access various interesting destinations through the Limbang Bridge in just 30 minutes. In the meantime, he also explained that the development of the road infrastructure from Limbang to Mount Buda is actively underway and will be connected to the Mount Mulu area thus opening a nature-based tourism route.
"Buda Mountain is part of the Mulu Mountain area. We are also developing a road from Miri to Marudi which now has a bridge and from Marudi to Long Terawan before connecting to Buda Mountain. "This will form a complete route or one loop that allows tourists to travel from Brunei to Limbang and continue to Mulu via Mount Buda thus facilitating mobility and stimulating the tourism sector based on the environment for both countries," he explained. – TVS
