SEBUYAU: An additional ferry with a capacity of 32 vehicles has been operating at Sebuyau-Triso ferry point from 8am until 10pm since April 14.

This was announced by Assistant Minister of Coastal Road Datuk Julaihi Narawi when officiating at the talk on ferry service safety for the local community at Dewan Pembangunan Sebuyau yesterday.

Julaihi pointed out that the Sebuyau-Triso ferry service was getting busy, particularly with the completion of Samarahan Bridge and Batang Sadong Bridge, which were opened for public use last year and in 2016, respectively.

“With the additional unit, the Sebuyau-Triso is served by three ferries that will reduce the waiting time during peak hours like weekends, school holidays and festive seasons from four and half to two hours,” he said.

Based on statistics from Public Works Department, 31,331 vehicles used the ferry service in October last year and the number increased to 33,427 in November and reached 43,933 in December.

Julaihi, who is Sebuyau assemblyman, said the Sebuyau-Triso ferry service started operation in 2013 with only one ferry with a capacity of 32 vehicles, while the second ferry, also with the same capacity, started operation in January 2017.

He advised motorists using the ferry service to always obey the rules and regulations for safety purpose.

Meanwhile, he said that the state government had approved the construction of Batang Lupar bridge that will replace the use of Sebuyau-Triso ferry service at an approximate cost of RM1 billion.
